This Home Built By Henry Shaw Is a Gorgeous Piece of St. Louis History [PHOTOS]

Henry Shaw is one of the most important figures in St. Louis history. The entrepreneur and philanthropist not only founded the Missouri Botanical Garden (a.k.a. “Shaw’s Garden") but he also gave the city the land to make Tower Grove Park.

In fact, he was so wealthy that at one point the Missouri Botanical Garden was just his personal garden, but as it grew into the beauty it is today, he decided to open it up to the public. At one point Shaw owned much of the land in south city and after he retired this was this home.

And to this day, 10 Shaw Place is right in the center of it all.

Located just west of S. Grand Avenue, this 4-bedroom, two-and-a-half bath Victorian home is just as stunning as it was when it was built in 1881. The house boasts its original hardware, millwork and hardwood floors, too. Some updates have been done to bring the house (designed by George Ingham Barnett) into modern times, but it’s clear that the renovations have been done with great care.
