Get a Sneak Peek at the Awesome New Museum at the Gateway Arch

We're still a couple weeks away from the Museum at the Arch reopening to the public, but the Riverfront Times got an early look this week at the newly renovated space. The museum features exhibits about St. Louis' past as a trading post, its riverboat heyday and the construction of the Arch itself, in addition to much, much more. The old museum was a "look with your eyes, not with your hands" place, but the new space is rather interactive, with games and displays that bring to mind the Science Center's hands-on approach. The new museum is designed to be wheelchair accessible as well; its predecessor was not. The opening of the museum on July 3 will mark the completion of $380 million in upgrades to the Arch grounds that comes from a partnership between he National Park Service, Gateway Arch Park Foundation, Bi-State Development, Great Rivers Greenway, Jefferson National Parks Association, the city of St. Louis and MoDOT. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on July 3, with the museum opening to the public at noon. A grand opening celebration will run from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will include live music, food trucks, a scavenger hunt and photo booth. - photos and text by Daniel Hill
