On Tuesday, October 3, protesters used a combination of cars and people to take over I-64/40 at the Kingshighway entrance. They then marched all the way to Jefferson, peacefully exiting the highway after about 30 minutes.
The brief, audacious maneuver led to mass arrests, with police blocking in a large group of protesters at Jefferson and Market. At least 120 people were reportedly taken into custody, including state Representative Bruce Franks (D-St. Louis), the Rev. Starsky Wilson and journalist Jordan Chariton of the Young Turks.
Kelly Glueck and Doyle Murphy were there to capture the jubilation on the highway -- and the deflation that followed.
