Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery

This national military cemetery was established all the way back in 1826, which is basically a recipe for ghost stories. The Seven Gates of Hell

Yes, this legend is as morbid as the name. The "gates" are actually old bridges (most formerly used for trains) that you'll recognize by tons of graffiti. The story goes that if you drive under bridges one through seven in order after midnight, you will come to a portal to hell and "Hell Hounds" upon passing through the final gate. There are also spine-chilling tales associated with the gates, including the story of teens who were on acid and wrecked their car at one of the bridges. It's now infamously known as Acid Bridge. Today it's a restaurant and hotel, but years ago, Lemp Mansion was home to the Lemp family, owners of the Lemp Brewery. The family faced a series of tragedy, starting with the mysterious death of one of the brewery's heirs. Over the years, this was followed by five other family deaths, four of which were suicide. With a nickname like that, you know it has to be haunted. Officially called Rock Hollow Trail, this trail has many stories attached to it. The path has earned its reputation since its beginnings in the 1800s, when pioneers settled on what was Native American land and supposedly were attacked. Since then, reports of nearby drownings, a wealthy widow's death and various other incidents are said to have occurred -- and, of course, paranormal activity. The McPike Mansion

Built in 1869, the McPike Mansion holds status on the National Register of Historic Places. But until 1936, it was the home of the McPike family -- and rumor has it that the family still dwells at the house today. According to the McPike Mansion website, "It is not uncommon to find in photos of the mansion, orbs, balls of light, even figures appearing in the windows that were not seen by the human eye when the photo was taken." Rumor has it that this theater on the Webster University campus is home to three different spirits. David Hitzer, a master electrician, is a favorite -- according the Post-Dispatch, he's known for roaming the catwalks and playing with the projectors and lights. One look at this historic building, and you understand why this place is considered haunted. Built in 1851, the house was owned by the Campbell family from 1854 to 1938 before it became a museum in 1943. But some stories will make you wonder if the family ever left. Alton Military Prison

What started as a state prison in 1833 eventually became a prison for over 11 thousand Confederate soldiers during the American Civil War. The prison had a higher than average disease and death toll. This is where over a thousand Confederate soldiers were laid to rest after dying in Union captivity. But this isn't your typical graveyard; there are no individual headstones. Located in one of the "Most Haunted Small Towns in America," the Mineral Springs Mall used to be a hotel and spa. The building is said to have faced a plethora of tragedy, including suicides, murders and accidental deaths. South Main Street, St. Charles

The historic town of St. Charles is also known to be ridden with ghosts. South Main Street in particular seems to be home to several spirits -- the ghosts of a man, woman, a little girl who died in a fire, a person speaking French and more are said to have made appearances at their various shops and houses. The Fabulous Fox Theatre
