While you walk through neighborhoods like the Delmar Loop, the Central West End or downtown St. Louis, you will find spaces like project+ gallery, the Componere Gallery of Art and the International Photography Hall of Fame and Museum. These unique art galleries showcase many contemporary artists. Some even feature St. Louis art specifically, making them a great place to see what the locals are working on. St. Louis is home to many galleries showcasing artists of various media, from all around the world. While you walk through neighborhoods like the Delmar Loop, the Central West End or downtown St. Louis, you will find spaces like project+ gallery, the Componere Gallery of Art and the International Photography Hall of Fame and Museum.

Houska

Houska Gallery is owned by pop artist Charles Houska. The gallery highlights local artists, with a main room and both upstairs and downstairs galleries. For those interested in pop art, you can shop online for cosmo bags, mugs, totes and even cool shades with signature pieces from Charles Houska.

Urb Arts

With rotating art, open mic nights and yoga every second and fourth Saturday of the month, complete with tunes by a DJ, Urb Arts is a Old North gem. Every Sunday, Urb Arts presents Lyrical Therapy, where musicians, poets and fans can listen, perform and jam out to a live DJ in between sets. The gallery also regularly hosts local art exhibitions and events put on by the community.

The Philip Slein Gallery focuses on painters who work in various styles and have achieved regional and international praise. Some of the artists include Jamie Adams, Todd Chilton, Gabriele Evertz and Katharine Kuharic. The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. or by appointment.

If you’ve ever been to the Delmar Loop, you’ve likely noticed the Componere Gallery of Art. You can bet you’ll find a great gift created by a St. Louis artist. Componere Gallery of Art carries handcrafted jewelry, decorative ceramics, paintings, original prints and original steampunk lamps. In the back, you’ll also find custom gallery framing and printing services. Artists framing their own work get a special discount.

Learn how to make glass bead bracelets and more with Craft Alliance’s classes for beginners and experts alike. Classes last from one day to six weeks and allow you to create with clay, metals, fiber, glass and wood. The Dark Room Wine Bar & Photo Gallery

For late nighters, the Dark Room Wine Bar & Photo Gallery hosts happy hour from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. Wednesday through Saturday. It’s a great place to catch a live music show with food served until close, enjoy late night specials and check out rotating photography exhibitions. Brunch is also served on Sundays.

International Photography Hall of Fame and Museum

The International Photography Hall of Fame and Museum collects, exhibits and preserves historic photographic images and items. The permanent collection includes pieces from more than 500 artists. Admission prices are hard to beat, too: it’s $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and students with student I.D., and free for both military and people under eighteen. Why miss this opportunity to learn more on the history and art of photography?

Projects+gallery features contemporary artists and exhibits from regional, national and international areas. An initiative called projects+impulse features jewelry and other objects made by artists whose work reflects on the current exhibition. Projects+gallery is open Wednesday through Saturday, 11 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The Regional Arts Commission hosts events, art galleries, public installations and performances. The gallery is open seven days a week: Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday noon to 5 p.m. All events are free, open to the public and wheelchair-accessible.

If you’re looking for artists from all over, the Atrium Gallery presents works by regional, national and international contemporary artists. At Art Saint Louis, you can find gallery exhibitions and a cafe all in one. Located downtown in the historic Park Pacific building, its art exhibits are free and open to the public. Art St. Louis also produces educational programs, artist portfolio reviews and counseling.

Troy’s Jazz Gallery is unlike the rest -- a destination for live jazz musicians, vocalists, DJs, poetry and good food and drinks. If you’re looking for something to do, it stays open late on weekends until 1 a.m. There’s even special events hosted every Sunday, Monday and Thursday night.

Soulard Art Gallery

The Soulard Art Gallery hosts gallery exhibitions and Wake Up Thursday Nights with the Soulard Art Society every Thursday. This includes a 50-minute video on various artists followed by a discussion. Soulard Art Gallery is open Thursday and Friday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Vino Gallery
